Second verse, same as the first.. (Day 17)
This mornings walk started a little early to avoid some of the heat. The town was silent save for some other walkers heading out. The only thing open was the church.
I was again blessed with good weather and the entire morning had a nice cloud cover. Exiting the village was lovely and I felt good. I got my first full night of sleep with no leg issues. They haven’t been bad but I’ve been woken up with soreness in my shin areas or hips early each morning. Last night I slept all the way through. It might be this magnesium supplement I’m taking or it could just be that my legs are finally giving up protesting and realizing we’re walking this whole damned thing so they better deal with it. Either way, it made for a pleasant night and subsequent morning.
The town square was silent at 0700 and all you could hear was the occasional shuffling of other walkers heading out of town
Once I exited the village it was time for an eleven mile hike through, you guessed it - flat fields!!!
Isn’t it gorgeous?
Creepy dead sunflower children whisperers
So flat you could see a dog from 2 weeks away. My favorite odd quote about the plains from a Canadian woman at dinner last night
So, really that’s it for Day 17. It was a really short hike but once we hit the fields the sun came out and it got damned hot. I was glad to get to my destination and have a nice cold beer. Tomorrow looks to be more of the same. I’m playing with the idea of leaving really early and walking in the dark for a while. I’m also a lazy bastard so this may or may not happen. I’ll let you know.
